Sometimes the deepest transformation begins with a text message.

Kristie Barnett-Sexton, our women’s ministry pastor, received a message last weekend from a woman who had attended our Ladies Night Out kickoff event. She had been quiet for months. Battling silently. Disconnected. Numb. But that night, something shifted.

And then she told Kristie why.

This woman had been through what most people would call a lifetime of pain compressed into just a few years. Her husband struggled with addiction, and in the middle of the chaos, she found herself reaching for something stronger than despair. She found God. She started attending church. She became a living testimony to the man she loved.

And it worked. He got clean.

For a moment, it seemed like things might finally be okay. But then, her mother died. And the darkness came rushing back. And then, a year later, her father passed. And the bottom fell out again. Layer after layer of grief buried her sense of purpose. Her identity felt erased. She wasn’t sure how to climb out this time.

Until last Friday night.

She sat in the auditorium during Ladies Night Out, unsure of what to expect. And then Kristie stood up and delivered a message that pierced straight through her pain. Eight words found her in the fog: “Don’t get lost in the chapter you’re in.”
It was exactly what she needed to hear. The moment was more than encouraging, it was catalytic. Like oxygen to a flame that had almost gone out.

She texted Kristie the next day with a new fire in her heart: She’s coming to everything now. She wants to get involved. She wants to give back. To be for someone else what this night was for her.

That’s the power of ministry. That’s the fruit of obedience.

That’s what happens when a church makes space for women to gather, worship, and hear truth that cuts through the chaos.

And make no mistake, this wasn’t just a well-timed quote. This was an answer to prayer.

There are women walking into Dream City Church every week who look fine on the outside but are breaking apart on the inside. And it’s nights like this, moments like this, that remind them they’re not alone, not forgotten, and not finished.

At Dream City, we believe every woman deserves that kind of moment. A holy interruption. A turning point. A page turn. A fresh start. And thanks to the generosity of Kingdom Builders, we get to keep creating them.

Because when you give, you’re helping us host nights like these. You’re helping us prepare messages, open doors, and build spaces where women can encounter Jesus in deeply personal, healing ways.

This woman’s story isn’t over. It’s just beginning.

And so are the stories of countless others who just need someone to hold out a light in the dark.

Join the movement. Be a part of stories like this through Kingdom Builders.
