Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Celebrate Recovery for?
Celebrate Recovery is for everyone—because no one should have to face their pain alone. We are a grace-filled community of real people who bravely step into a safe, welcoming space to be honest about our hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Together, we explore how pain has shaped the way we see ourselves, God, and others, and we gently acknowledge the coping patterns we’ve used to survive—even when they’ve caused harm. Here, healing begins with honesty, hope, and the reminder that we don’t walk this journey alone.
What is Celebrate Recovery?
Celebrate Recovery is a Bible-based recovery program designed to help people break free from hurts, hang-ups, and habits through the life-changing power of Jesus Christ. This proven, 12-step program guides individuals toward lasting healing by replacing old patterns with God’s truth and developing healthy, life-giving habits.
Built on Eight Biblical Principles from the Beatitudes, Celebrate Recovery goes beyond behavior change—it leads to heart transformation. Founded over 30 years ago at Saddleback Church, CR is now active in 35,000+ churches worldwide and remains Saddleback’s number one outreach ministry. Pastor Rick Warren calls it a “leadership factory” because of the powerful growth and restoration it produces.
Celebrate Recovery is for everyone. You don’t have to have it all together. You don’t have to face your pain alone. No matter your background, you are welcome to come as you are—and discover freedom, hope, and a new way forward.
What can I expect at a meeting?
Celebrate Recovery meets weekly for two powerful hours designed to bring hope, healing, and connection.
Large Group
We begin together in a large group setting with an hour of worship followed by either a teaching or a personal testimony. Teachings are based on the 25 Celebrate Recovery lesson materials. We also celebrate milestones in sobriety with chips.
Open Share Groups
In the second hour, participants break into small, gender-specific, issue-focused Open Share Groups. This is a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space where individuals are given time to share—without interruption, advice, or cross talk. Sharing is always voluntary, and each group is guided by trained CR leaders. This open share time is often where participants experience deep support, healing, and connection with others who understand the recovery journey.
What is a Step Study Group?
For those ready to take the next step, Celebrate Recovery also offers Step Study Groups. These gender-specific groups meet weekly at a separate time and typically last about 12 months. Step studies allow participants to go deeper into their past, examine choices, and experience real, lasting life changes. Participants work through the Celebrate Recovery: The Journey Begins guide each week. After attending Large Group for a season, participants are encouraged to join a step study when one becomes available.
Will childcare be available?
Yes, childcare will be available so you can fully engage in the experience. Our heart is to create a space where you feel free to be present, open, and vulnerable, knowing your children are cared for in a safe and supportive environment. Please be sure to register your child during the class sign-up process.
