Have you ever run into someone who professes to love Jesus but has no interest in being part of the church? Whether because of a bad experience or just because it seems unnecessary, many believers find themselves feeling apprehensive about being part of the body of Christ. Maybe they grew up going through the motions, or perhaps are new to faith and curious about why people gather week after week.
At Dream City Church, we believe being part of the church Jesus established is an essential element of a believer’s faith journey. This comes straight from Scripture. The church is not just a building or a weekly event. It is a living community called by God to reflect His heart to the world. When we understand its true purpose, everything from our Sunday gatherings to our everyday lives starts to make sense in a fresh, hopeful way.
The Heart of the Church: Glorifying God
At its core, the church exists to bring glory to God. Everything we do points back to Him, whether we are singing in worship, studying His Word, or simply living out our days with gratitude. This is not about earning His favor. It is about responding to the incredible love He has already shown us through Jesus.
Scripture puts it beautifully in 1 Peter 2:9:
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
When we gather at Dream City Church, we declare those praises together. Our worship services become a powerful reminder that God is worthy of every bit of our attention and affection. He created us for relationship, both with Him and with each other, and the church helps us keep that relationship front and center.
Strength in Community: Building One Another Up
God never meant for us to walk this faith journey alone. The church is a family where believers encourage each other, grow together, and become more like Christ. Life can feel heavy at times, but when we link arms with other followers of Jesus, we find fresh strength and perspective.
The Bible reminds us of this in Hebrews 10:24-25:
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
At Dream City Church, this plays out in our weekend services, our midweek gatherings, and our small groups that meet in homes. We share stories, pray for one another, and celebrate the ways God is at work in our lives. Newcomers quickly discover they belong here, surrounded by people who genuinely care.
Our Mission Forward: Making Disciples
The church also carries a clear assignment from Jesus Himself: to make disciples. This means sharing the good news of the gospel and helping people take their next steps with Christ. It is not complicated or intimidating. It looks like inviting a friend to service, walking alongside someone who is exploring faith, or using our gifts to serve those around us.
Jesus gave us this charge in Matthew 28:19-20:
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
We take this to heart by serving our city through outreach, volunteering, and building relationships that point people to Jesus. Whether it is stocking a food pantry, mentoring a young believer, or simply being a good neighbor, every act of love becomes part of God’s bigger story of redemption.
When these three purposes — glorifying God, building one another up, and making disciples — come together, the church becomes a beacon of hope in our neighborhoods and beyond. Here at Dream City Church, we see it happening every week across our campuses and online. Lives are changed, families are strengthened, and the gospel spreads through ordinary people who have said “Yes!” to following Jesus.
