If you’ve been following along with our series, “The Week That Changed the World,” you know we’ve spent the last six days walking through the heavy, intentional, and often heart-wrenching steps Jesus took toward the Cross. We’ve felt the weight of the cleansing of the Temple, the intimacy of the Upper Room, and the agonizing silence of Holy Saturday—a day where humanity felt the crushing weight of a buried hope.
But then, the sun rose.
As Pastor Adam and Pastor Brad discussed in our final episode, Resurrection Sunday wasn’t just a quiet “ta-da” moment. It was a day of “good chaos.” It was the day the impossible became the definitive reality.
The “Super Bowl” of Our Faith
Pastor Brad called Resurrection Sunday the “Super Bowl” of Christianity, and for good reason. Without this day, everything else Jesus did—the miracles, the teaching, the compassion—would have been just another footnote in history.
As the Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15, if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is our faith. The Resurrection is the ultimate validation. It proves that Jesus was exactly who He said He was. It fulfilled over 300 prophecies and sealed the deal for every believer.
“As silent as Saturday was, Sunday was going crazy.” — Pastor Brad
The Sights and Sounds of the Garden
Imagine being there that morning. After a day of “hush” in the land, the atmosphere shifted:
-
The Sound: The grinding of stone against stone as the entrance to the tomb was forced open.
-
The Sight: The dazzling appearance of an angel asking the most perspective-shifting question in history: “Why are you looking for the living among the dead?”
-
The Pace: The rustling of feet as Mary Magdalene and the disciples ran with a mixture of curiosity, fear, and budding excitement.
This wasn’t a funeral procession anymore; it was the birth of a movement.
The Road to Emmaus: When Hearts Burn
One of the most moving parts of the Resurrection story is the encounter on the Road to Emmaus. Two disciples were walking away from Jerusalem, devastated and feeling “duped.” They had seen their King crucified.
Jesus joins them, disguised, and begins to explain how the Scriptures pointed to these very events. It wasn’t until He broke bread with them—reminiscent of the Last Supper—that their eyes were opened.
They famously asked each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked with us on the road?” That “burning heart” wasn’t just emotion; it was the precursor to the fire of the Holy Spirit. It was the moment hope moved from their heads to their hearts.
More Than a Calendar Date
The Resurrection isn’t just a historical event we celebrate once a year with brunch and new clothes. It is a living power.
Jesus didn’t just come back to life to prove a point; He came back to provide a Presence. By rising, He paved the way for the Holy Spirit to remain with us today. The same power that rolled away the stone is the same power available to you in your “impossible” situations.
If you feel like your hope has been buried in a grave of circumstances—whether it’s a relationship, a career path, or a personal struggle—remember that we serve a God who specializes in the impossible.
Your Next Step
As we wrap up this incredible week at Dream City Church, our prayer is that this wouldn’t be the end of the story for you.
-
Celebrate: Walk in the spirit of celebration today, knowing your faith is validated.
-
Connect: If you prayed the prayer of salvation with us or rededicated your life, we want to walk with you.
-
Go: Like the disciples, let’s go out and change the world. The story doesn’t end when the calendar flips.
He is risen! He is risen indeed.
