If you’ve been a Christian for any significant length of time, you know how it goes. One day your faith feels rock steady, and the next you find quiet questions and worries showing up uninvited to scratch at the door of your heart.
Maybe a tough season at work or a prayer that seems to go unanswered has you wondering if God is really in control. Or perhaps words from skeptical friends are stirring up fresh uncertainty about whether all this is true. If that sounds familiar, take heart. Doubts creep in for every believer at some point, and they do not mean your faith is broken. They can actually become the very place where it grows deeper.
Here at Dream City Church, we walk with people through moments just like this every week. Our community is full of folks who love Jesus and still face moments when believing feels hard. The good news is that God never turns away from honest questions. Instead, He invites us closer and gives us practical ways to hold on while the fog lifts.
Recognizing That Doubts Are Normal
First, remember you are in good company. The Bible shows us that even the most faithful people wrestled with uncertainty. Think about the disciples who saw Jesus perform miracles yet still struggled to believe at times. God does not shame us for these moments when our faith is shaken. He understands that we are human and that life in a broken world can rattle our confidence. The key is to name the doubt instead of pushing it down. When we bring it into the light, it loses some of its power and opens the door for real growth.
Turning to God with Honest Questions
One of the most powerful steps you can take is to talk directly to the Lord about what you are feeling. He already knows your heart, but speaking those doubts out loud in prayer changes everything. A father in the Gospels once cried out to Jesus, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24). That simple honesty moved Jesus to act with compassion. You can pray the same way today. Ask God to meet you exactly where you are. Tell Him what feels confusing or distant. He is generous with wisdom and never scolds those who come seeking help.
Finding Strength in Scripture
Next, open the pages of the Bible with fresh eyes. God’s Word is living and active, and it has a way of speaking straight to the places where doubt tries to settle. Spend time in the Gospels and watch how Jesus handled people who were unsure. Read the Psalms and hear honest cries that sound a lot like our own. As you do, you will begin to see patterns of God’s faithfulness across generations. Even when answers do not come right away, the truth about who God is stays firm. Keep a simple journal of verses that stand out or prayers you have seen answered in the past. Those reminders become anchors when new questions arise.
Connecting with Your Church Family
You were never meant to fight doubt in isolation. Sharing your story with trusted brothers and sisters in Christ brings encouragement and perspective you cannot find alone. At Dream City Church we have seen time after time how a conversation over coffee or a prayer after service can breathe fresh hope into a weary heart.
The writer of Hebrews reminds us,
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.” (Hebrews 10:24-25).
Gathering with God’s people is not just a nice habit. It is one of the ways He designed for us to borrow strength from one another until our own faith feels solid again.
Moving Forward One Step at a Time
Finally, keep doing the things you know build faith even when your feelings have not caught up yet. Serve someone who needs help. Worship with lifted hands even if the words feel heavy. Show up for prayer or a small group. These obedient steps often become the path where God restores joy and confidence. Doubt does not get the last word. Jesus does. And He is patient with every step of the journey.
If doubts have crept into your mind and heart lately, know that brighter days are ahead. God is at work in the middle of your questions, shaping for you a faith that is more resilient and more rooted in Him than ever before. Keep seeking, keep trusting, and keep walking forward.
